Shioto is qualified with a PhD in Biomechanics from the University of Western Australia, and is an accredited physiotherapist in Japan, having held a position as a senior practitioner/clinical supervisor for 7 years at a leading tertiary university hospital in central Tokyo.
Previous to founding Bentley Clinical Massage, Shioto served as a top level senior therapist at Perth's leading sports massage clinic, where he combined his unique set of experience to provide hands-on care for 12 years.
Shioto has had a career in academia as a lecturer at Edith Cowan University, School of Medical and Health Sciences. He has taught clinical exercise physiology (musculoskeletal), and exercise rehabilitation courses whilst conducting clinical research involving optimal rehabilitation.
Shioto received a PhD in applied biomechanics of the spine at UWA, where he worked with professors to deliver postgraduate manual therapy (short) courses for Japanese physiotherapists at UWA and universities in Japan, fostering bi-lateral short postgraduate courses (manual therapy and sports physiotherapy). Shioto helped pioneer the introduction of sports physiotherapy and sports manual therapy to Japanese-based physiotherapists.
